Haha. I can imagine him typing in "thx" into chat after getting the skills.

Maybe he's just getting into the RP aspect.
We have a strange one in our guild...i put out on the guild chat that we were doing a GvG and to meet at the hall...he responds, 'Sir, whatever you would have me do, sir!' I thought it was pretty respectful. We start arriving at the hall and he shows up and doesn't say a word. I say hi to him and he bows and kneels before me. 'What is thy bidding, m'lord?' I told him to stop calling me lord, sire or any of the other titles he was using. He said something about not being from here and having to get used to such liberal ways. 'What would m'lord have me call him?' 'uh.....Sereng is cool with me.' 'As you wish.' Then I told everyone that didn't have a level 20 character to log out, log in and create a PvP only character that is the same as their oldest character. He comes back in about 10 or so minutes with his newly created female necro and doesn't say a word. Just standing there with her head down was creepy, much less than the fact that I switched genders in the middle of this paragraph. We were all chatting in local and guild about our strategies and what skills to bring. He/she didn't say a word. I knew he/she wasn't afk because he/she would move a little every once in a while. We finally called off the GvG because of lack of players. He/she and I were the last 2 at the hall and I thanked him/her for showing support. No response. I decided to try it his/her way. 'Thank you, soldier, for showing your support. Your services are no longer needed at the present time. But be assured that you will be called upon soon.' 'My skills are ever ready to serve the guild.' 'I'm leaving now. Continue with your quests.' '...' 30 seconds '...' 'Dismissed.' 'Thank you Officer Sereng.' Then he mapped out. It was kind of like playing Zork where you had to say the right thing to get a response. Pretty cool, but as I said, kind of creepy. Maybe we should have some sort of interview before sending invites. lol I hope to be in his/her presence more often. Last edited by Sereng Amaranth; Dec 16, 2005 at 05:16 PM // 17:16.. |

Sereng, that guy is brilliant How many people are complaining that too many players in GW want to lead (even if their guild just consists of 2 players), and there is not enough followers? You've got a perfect one here, appreciate him

Hehe, when one of my characters made it to Ascalon City post-searing and I had to go afk, I decided I'd stand by the henchies and see how many invites I'd get. No special name or Guild tag, I just stood there. I got a few invites, but once they realized I need to accept they canceled it and ran away.

Sheesh, Sereng, welcome to role playing.
Has role playing really become so rare that folks don't know what to make of it when it occurs? *sigh* May there some day be a game as good as GW that has a vibrant role playing community. Please do me a favor, Sereng, and thank that guild member for attempting to keep the RP in RPG. Dalia |

I dunno, RPing for me is meant for forums where you write out a scene for your character, like writing a story with others. I couldn't do the DnD style, in character on video games or LARP. It just isn't right :\

Egad, just isn't right?!!
*sighs again* Those of you who don't know the fun of in-game role playing are just missing out! Think of it as fantasy improv. Get a few skilled role players together and watch the humor and wit fly. Then tell me that kind of fun just isn't right. Create a community of role players and, over time, watch the inter-relationships and histories of those characters intertwine, adding depth to their interactions -- ah, sheesh, you younguns haven't lived! I know GW, as it stands now, doesn't have the interface for it. It's a pity, that. There are remedies, such as creating a smaller radius area chat channel, tavern instances, etc. I'm not very hopeful those improvements will happen, however. Still! One can dream. I hope that someday game developers will create an environment that fosters in-game role play. I miss the fun of it. Dalia |

Sorry Dalia, but I have experienced RP before. It just was a pleasant surprise here in GW. I had a group of about 20 friends in ROSE that I RPed with all the time. We'd whisper normally, but all local chat was RP.
And whenever I feel generous and give away nice weapons in Ascalon City, I always end with "May the skulls of many Charr crush beneath your feet." Most simply just lol it off but there are a few that return with a similar comment. I'll start RPing more in the game. |

Aw that's kind of cute the original post
About the roleplaying: I've not tried other games like WoW, and GW isn't really a role playing game, it's basically an action game with fantasy characters. You could do worse than play Neverwinter Nights, there are dedicated roleplaying servers for that game where people act out stories etc. not just run around kill things for xp/loot. In a way it's a pity Guild Wars doesn't have a "role playing" district with live GM's (games masters) dropping mobs and creating stories etc on the fly. |

Ugh. Anyone who roleplays in GW as it is now isn't very good at roleplaying, or is extremely desperate.
The interface, as it stands, is AWFUL for roleplaying. Go find an IRC rp channel somewhere, it's thousands of times more fun. |
